On January 5, 2023, the Federal Trade Commission proposed a new rule, which would impose a near-complete ban on the use of noncompetes by employers. The FTC’s mission is to protect the public from deceptive or unfair business practices and from unfair methods of competition through law enforcement, advocacy, research, and education.
